I am back after too long of a time and what better topic for the returning blog then the reason why I was gone! Glad to be back with you guys I missed you:)
I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life this year and what my plans were and let me tell you that is a lot harder to do then it sounds!
Everyone has told me what they think I should be doing with my life-- "go to college" "study this" "Don't spend money here."
Well this is the year I say "Fuck it" and am going to do what I want to do... but after so many years of others telling me what they think I should do, my viewpoint was blurred and I really wasn't sure where I wanted to go from here.
So I spent some time thinking about it and while I may not know exactly what I want to do now I have a clearer picture based on my view of my life!
So, I decided to try and show you guys what has helped me start to get my life in line and find success in some areas of life, even if it's not business necessarily. Because when you find success in one area it starts to translate into success in other areas as well!
So this is for you, all the college kids in your dorms wondering what the fuck to do with their life, all the people that want to chase their passions but don't know where to start and all the people who feel like everything is going wrong in their life.
THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!
I'm just gonna start out here saying that when you take control of one area of your life you start finding results in not just that area but other areas as well.
This is because it builds discipline and habits that take control of other areas of your life as well.
Also, this is not going to be based around your passions or business, rather what ways you can take control in relationships, health, fitness, education and habits.
I will make another post on how to turn this into business success....
The Most Important Thing To Understand If You Want To Take Control of Your Life
Okay so here is the most important thing when it comes to taking control of your life.. to put emotions behind your goals or the work that you are doing.
I heard this on Tai Lopez's podcast and it has actually changed the way I look at life and goals.
I could not realize why I had so little motivation until I heard this and thought about it for a minute... motivation is temporary and emotion is the long term plan, always play the long term game.
I spent Forever trying to figure out how to get motivation in my life and when I did get it, the motivation only lasted so long... After years of this I have finally found out why.
Motivation comes in temporarily at certain points of your life to give you a little boost, whether it be for a few minutes, hours, days or weeks.
Then there are the two things that help you with long term success in every area of your life: your habits/ daily routines and the emotion that you put behind your goals.
Ever notice how you always seem to fall back into your daily habits, whether it be watching tv or even powerful ones like hitting the gym, but never are able to keep the new ones you are trying to create like taking more business action?
That is because you have made those things part of your daily routine and just a habit that you just have to do during the day. If you want to get more done, you have to think about your habits and every time you start falling back into your daily habits of Netflix or Fortnite, think about what you are doing and switch to a more productive activity. Do this until it is second nature.
For attaching emotions to your goals this works for all goals in all areas of your life because it gives you a real reason to attack the goal on a personal level, not just because you want more money.
Say your goal is to workout more and you used to be overweight and the butt of every joke... think about those times and how you used to feel (that is your emotion) and then realize that you will feel the same way if you don't keep working out and eating good.
Make this emotion something that forces you to get up, connect your goal back to a time when you were struggling, relive how that felt. Now, realize that you never want to feel like that again and this goal is what is keeping you from having to experience that!
Take Control of Your Daily Routine
Your daily routine is essential for your success because what you build the habits that drive your day to day success.
If you have bad habits, even if you get a little motivation and start grinding on your passions or business, you will fall back i to your old habits because that is what is easy and normal.
So the key here is to own your daily habits and routine so that you don't have those habits to fall back on.
Every time you want to watch more Netflix or play Fortnite, try and take that as a hint to do more work. Make another post, do another video... start building those habits so that you can win each day.
This has made one of the biggest impacts on my life this year. Every time I wanted to pick up my phone again or scroll through Instagram for the 100th time, I started to do more work until work became the go-to rather than fucking around.
Take Control of Your Health and Fitness
I used to put this step of success in life on the "less important" because I didn't think it was really productive, but after still not seeing results I gave it a try and focused more on what I was eating, why I was eating it, what workouts I was doing and why I was doing them.
And let me tell you, I have ever had anything change my life the way that didn't. I started eating better and not bullshitting with myself that it didn't matter what I ate. This helped me get more energy, wake up early, and help me actually see the results from my workouts.
When I started working out everyday it helped me get in better shape, build confidence and see even better results when I was eating right. I used to go to the gym a lot but not put my full effort in and half ass everything.
This time was different though... I started to focus on certain muscles on certain days, track my breaks, count more reps, stay there longer, etc.
Working out and eating right brought not just fitness into my life but also helped in other areas. Making these a habit everyday and not breaking the diet built discipline into my life and that directly translated into other areas as well.
Take Control of Your Money
This is going to be a short and simple section as it is pretty self explanatory and will work the same no matter how much money you have! The goal of you taking control of your money is to:
1. set yourself up for future success so you know how to manage more money, by learning how to manage what you have now.
2. To build a habit and find more control in your life to rewire your brain into thinking more positively and happier. This helps simulate control in your life and attract more positive things into your life.
Honestly this is as easy as going over all your accounts: all bank accounts, credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Stripe, etc and figure out how much you have in each and how much you owe.
Next, is to inventory why you have so much in each account and figure out if that is the best place for that money.
Then, figure out how much you owe and actually write down a payment plan for that if you can't pay it all off in one month.
Finally, you are going to determine how may bank accounts you need... say one for business, one savings for a car, one investments, a checking, one for saving for something else, as many categories as you need. Then go sit down with your banker and organize your money into all of these new accounts.
This will give you an unmatched feeling of control in your life and give you some motivation to hustle and get even more money:)
Take Control of Your Relationships
One of the most common Instagram quotes I see is the one that goes something along the lines of "You are the average of your 5 closest friends."
Well this is super easy to say but like absolutely nobody takes action on this because it is hard as hell to do. I bet even the people posting these quotes aren't taking action on this... it actually requires cutting people off or not hanging out with them as much.
While I'm not perfect at this either I have done it a few times and can share some advice for some college entrepreneurs and those not in college as well:)
In college, I have had to step back from the people that I had originally met and figure out who was helping me and who was holding me back.. turns out a hell of a lot of people were holding me back because all they cared about was parties and going out at night.
I realized I was getting nowhere with anything by hanging around these types of people and wasn't seeing results in any area of my life.
I started cutting these people off and spending more time alone, as I found a new circle of people. Alone in periods of your life isn't always a bad thing.. it helps you refocus and develop yourself.
If you aren't happy with yourself you aren't going to be able to bring happiness to others, whether a romantic relationship or not.
The overarching thing here is to step back and look at who is in your life and what they provide for you... maybe if you don't want to cut them off, spend less time with them and more time alone until you find people that more fit your goals.
