When Your Followers Care, They Keep Coming Back & Telling Their Friends About YouJust think about it as a relationship with a significant other. You wouldn’t expect them to love you if you are putting in no effort to love them. Imagine that you are not making any effort to hang out with them, you are not going on dates with them, you don’t tell anyone about them and you just don’t care about what they are doing in their life? Why would they date you? They won’t date you, you will be single before you know it if you do this in a relationship. So, look at your followers the same way. Why would they want to follow you if they see you don’t care about them or any other followers? They won’t want to follow you, and that is why so many people see those followers following them and then leaving and unfollowing them after a while because they see you just don’t care about them as much. How do you change that? What People Are Doing WrongPeople are posting and then just leaving the platform, not even paying attention to anything their followers are posting. Then they wonder why so many people are unfollowing them and why they don’t get great engagement on their posts. People don’t even look at their follower's profiles or care about what they are doing at all. Can you imagine having a girlfriend or boyfriend and every conversation was about you? You never asked a question about them, you never asked what they were doing or how they were feeling and just didn’t care. That relationship wouldn’t work and that is why so many people’s relationships don’t work on social media, they are too one-sided. Even if someone does engage and start conversations in their niche, it usually is with other accounts they find on larger profiles or even by going through hashtags in your niche and they are never engaging with their followers. That is like being in a relationship and talking or flirting with other people, not the person you are in the relationship with! That doesn’t work either. Start Simple With ThisA simple way to start showing that you care is to actually engage in a conversation with them. Keep the conversation that they start going, don’t just leave them on read. Your girlfriend doesn’t like when you leave her on read and neither will your followers. Reply to their comments within a few hours and don’t just reply with a few emojis, leave a thoughtful reply to show that you care. Same goes with the direct messages they send you, don’t just leave a full inbox if you have the ability to reply to these people within a few hours. This is super important with smaller accounts but larger accounts get so many direct messages that they can’t keep up. Just reply to them and start to show you care, don’t just look at their comment as another number. That is a person, so reply and talk with them to show you care. Start Showing Love On Their ProfilesAs I talked about above, you have to show love and support with them, like you would a significant other. You can’t just be friends with people and talk to them outside of your relationship. You have to talk to your significant other (your followers) as well, that’s a key aspect of a relationship. To do this on your social media account, go to your follower's profiles and start going through their posts to see what you can relate to. When you find those posts you can relate to, comment on them and leave a story, advice, question or even a thought. Don’t just leave an emoji, that doesn’t count as a conversation with them. If you really enjoy their profile, send them a direct message and start up a conversation with them there. Say how much you enjoy their profile, what you are learning and that you really appreciate them following you. Be Engaging With Your FollowersA cool way that I use to encourage engagement on my own account, @profitingtools on Instagram, is to start tagging the most engaged people, or those showing the account support through comments and likes, in my captions. Just like people in relationships tag each other in the comments of others’ posts or even friends mention or tag each other in their captions, you are going to mention your most engaged people. Simply add something at the bottom of your post along the lines of “thanks to these engaged followers” and just tag them. This gives them a notification that you tagged them in a post and gets them to engage with it soon after you post! What it all comes down to is actually caring about your followers like you would care about your significant other. When you show that you care about them and what they are working on, they will care about what you are doing as well! If You Don't Have A Lot of Ad Money, or Even If You Do, Here is A Great Place To Start Finding ClientsEveryone is so worried about running more and more ads to their page in order to get more clients, when they forget to realize they have thousands, even tens of thousands, of potential clients already following them! You don't even need to spend money reaching out to these people because they are already right there! All you have to do is take the time to reach out... More effective and cheaper than running ads every time to find clients, even though running ads is still essential to the business! There are other ways to get clients, that are actually FREE, if you just put the work in. Too many people are looking outside their account and never looking at who they already have following their account to connect with and make a potential client, this is a huge opportunity that I think you guys need to be more aware of! Reaching Out To Your FollowersWhat is free to do and actually easier than selling through running ads? Reaching out to your followers to get leads for sales. Just think about it, they already follow you so they enjoy your content or are already in your niche, so you know they are a potential lead already. This is actually a strategy that so many people look over because they don't eve look at the possibility. They think that all you can do on social media to sell is run ads and that is simply not the case. Even if they re reaching out to people over direct message or email already on social media, they are usually not reaching out to their own followers, they usually try finding and then reaching out to other people! Not only can reaching out to your followers give you more leads to sell, it can also build your relationships with followers and even increase the engagement on your page even if you don't make a sale! Seems like a win win doesn't it?! Qualifying The Lead and Asking QuestionsThe first thing you want to do is actually find the right followers to reach out to. Sure, you can reach out to anyone and everyone but that is just going to waste your time because a lot of those people are likely not going to be your target market or just not going to be in the market to buy in general. This is where qualifying the leads come in, starting by going through to find the first profile to reach out to. Go through their captions, posts, bio and stories to see what they are interested in and identify any problems they might be having. Ultimately, you want to see if these people are going to fit your target market and if you will reach out to them. When you do decide to reach out, start by asking if they are in the market for what you would be offering and explain what it could help them with or what problems it could help solve! Once figuring out if they are in the market, ask questions around them or their business to get an idea where they are at and how you are going to be able to tailor what you can offer to their specific problems or needs. Offering Value Up FrontAnother method that works really well for a service based business after you decide to reach out to the account, is to offer value up front and sell them based on the results from your service! You are going to want to reach out and directly go into how you can help them and give them a strategy or something based around your business that they can put to use right away. This allows them to put what you send them to use in their life or business and then see results so that when you follow up you can sell them based on the results they have gotten. The one thing to make sure of when you send this "value" to them is to make sure it is actually of value to them and not just something they can Google and find the answer in two minutes. A good way to judge how valuable the thing you are sending them is to send them something that is better than a lot of people's paid services in your niche! I have found this strategy to work very well in the past so don't look over it even though it takes a little more time! Building That Relationship FirstThe third strategy for reaching out to your followers to get leads is to build the relationship first. People buy from ho they trust, so why not try and build a relationship first and build the trust of them before going for the sale. Before reaching out, put int he work and research their account and their interests. Then, when you reach out, reach out explaining how you relate to their profile or a story you have around a niche they are in or even a question you have. Just start the conversation. This way you can learn more about them and their business and then move into asking questions to figure out how you can help them. Following Up on Social MediaHow about I tell you the one thing that help close the most sales and most people don't even think about doing when they reach out. That thing would be called following up and it is an essential part of the sales process. When you are going to follow up, ask about how the results they have gotten from the value you gave them early on or even just check up on them to see how everything has been. That is when you can move into your sales pitch. Following up on social media isn't as easy as it is on the phone where you make a time and then just call them back. On social media, you have to find the conversation which is actually really easy if you do two things. First, decide on a time to follow up with them. Make sure you leave enough time to take action on the value that you have given them, but don't wait too long or they will forget about your conversation. Next, you are going to want to keep track of the conversation, making it easy to go back and find ad you can do that two ways. The first being to "flag" the conversation, if you are on Instagram, by just swiping left and hitting "flag" so that it is easy to spot in the inbox. Finally, keep an excel graph of who they are, their username and organize it by when you are following up with them. You can also add important information about this person so that you don't forget it and can mention it in future conversations, showing you care about them and remember what they told you! Yet, it seems that a ton of people are just spamming their stories and not using them correctly. Why would people want to watch your story if its 5 minutes long everyday and offers no value to someone. Let's be honest, you wouldn't watch it either if it wasn't your account, so why do you expect other people to watch it? Exactly... How about we learn to use Instagram Stories the right way so that we can start to use it to our advantage and increase attention to our account and even increase sales! Sounds good right? I know.... What Most People Do WrongI'm gonna be honest, most stories I watch from "brands" or "businesses" on Instagram, absolutely SUCK! They understand the concept that they need to use the story, but they don't understand HOW to use it. This just leads to a ton of random stories that mean nothing to anyone and give no context to anybody. I see a ton of people posting about them in the gym and then that leads to them "working" at a computer and then telling you to go check out their website or new post... absolutely no context... and why would I go check out anything on your account if you haven't gave me any value yet?! Don't get me wrong, I used to do the same thing and get very poor results! Then I started having a purpose and a structure behind the story and that has made ALL the difference! Better engagement, more click to the profile and more people I an help and create relationships with, all through Instagram stories. When you use them right and structure them properly, you can actually greatly increase the engagement on your account and get more people to actually act on your call to action! How To Setup Your Instagram StoryAlright, now what is the proper way to setup your story then in order to get the maximum amount of attention and make it so people want to click all the way through and want to watch your whole story? That comes down to how you set up your story and make people want to click further. No matter how good the content in the story is, if you don't grab and keep their attention, they will never see the full story and then never get the full value. If they don't get the full value then you might miss an opportunity where they tell their friends about your page and in turn, you miss out on growth. You see where I'm going here!? So, obviously the first story is going to have grab their attention but then also explain what the story is going to be about, so people know WHY to keep tapping and not click away. That can be tough to do in one story but just keep the text short and don't be afraid if there is a little more text than you would like on the first story! Next, the middle chunk of your story is going to be the "meat" of your content and this is where you want to share the valuable information and keep them entertained. Keep them guessing and hinting at what is going to be in the next story if they tap to prevent them from clicking away or exiting out. Finally that last story or last two stories you are going to post is going to thank them for making it all the way and then have your call to action in it. The call to action at the end is key because it is after you have given them value or entertained them so they are more likely to follow through with it than if it was at the beginning of the story. What To Put In Your Instagram StoryWell, I can start off with what NOT to put in your story, how about we do that! You don't want to put too many stories up, otherwise people get bored of clicking through them all and will just exit out of the story all together. You also don't want to just put a bunch of random stuff that happens to you throughout the day without any context, because honestly, not many people care that much! Finally, you don't want to just ask your followers to do something like "swipe up" or "click the link in my bio" all day because then they aren't going to click your story in the future because they know you are just going to be asking them to do something. What you do want to put in your story, other than what I talked about above, with the beginning post and the call to action, is going to be something of value to people. This could include lessons you have learned, a story that teaches something, advice, strategies, etc. If you are in the "viral video" niche or just enjoy making funny or entertaining videos. you can also put those in there throughout the day as long as they flow nicely and you keep them all around the same topic. Finally, for the call to action, you can include anything from having them swipe up to go to a link (if your account is over 10,000 followers you have this feature), having them visit your website, having them share it with a friend or you can even have them go comment on your last post! The story is a powerful feature that many people don't take the full advantage of for content and instead waste it by just telling people to go check out their last post and nothing else!
