Summer, a love hate relationship whether it is in college or later in your high school career. You are finally out of classes but now you have to work what seems like even more hours and without your friends just to make some money and be able to support yourself throughout the school year. And it never seems that those summer jobs pay even close to enough to help get you through the school year, especially if you like to have experiences and travel more like myself. Well, there may be a solution to that if you are looking to put in a little extra work outside of your job. That is with a side hustle, something that you can actually start today and will make you some consistent money if you put in the work. These are going to be simple things to start and no I am not going to be talking about Shopify stores or any of that, just not my niche and I want to give you actionable items that are a little easier to start! So, let's jump in. Overview
Why You Need A Side HustleThat rent isn't going to pay itself. Everyone needs to pay for things like rent and food while in school, and if they can travel because that is one of the most important ways to start to experience life. Even just rent and food is sometimes hard with just a summer job because you are taking too many classes to hold a job during the school year. A solution to this could be to take on a second job but you might get burnt out really fast pulling 12-14 hour days and you will not be enjoying summer at all. Also, working two jobs could stress your relationships and friendships as you will never be around to hang out or when you are free you are just too tired to do anything. We don't want that, a side hustle might be a great solution as you could make around what you would make at a second job, but you pick your hours and usually it doesn't take as many hours as a second job would. Plus, you don't have to tell your boss you need time off for anything with a side hustle vs a second job so you are a little more free. Having to organize time off on two jobs during the summer can be a huge headache. If you are still on the edge about starting a side hustle, here is a checklist and a few things to think about when deciding if it is for your or not >> The Different Types of Side HustlesYou have to find one you will enjoy or you won't put the work in to make it work. Not all side hustles are made equal and the thing that most people fail at when choosing a side hustle is to choose one that actually fits their lifestyle. For example someone who is looking to make some quick extra money without much work starts a Shopify store or starts a blog/ social media account in order to sell products or services and then see no results and quit. They didn't see results not because the side hustles didn't work but because they were not willing to put the work in or invest the money required for those types of side hustles to work. In this case, they should have chosen something such as flipping, reselling, yard work, mowing lawns, etc that doesn't take as much of their time and isn't as hard to get started. Here is a post that will explain a few of my favorite side hustles for both increasing your income as well as more creative side hustles that act as passion projects where you can start helping people and adding meaning to your life that your job isn't giving you. Click here to visit that post >> One of My Favorite Side Hustles To Increase IncomeThis might be the perfect beginner side hustle. Now, let's say that you really don't have any skills you think could help anyone (yet) and really aren't sure where to start but you know you need that extra income because you have a trip or music festival coming up:) That is where one of my favorite side hustles comes into play because while it may not be your long term play, it can be used as a stepping stone to increase your income while simultaneously building skills that will help you with your future jobs, businesses and side hustles. This side hustle is known as "flipping" or reselling and I have been doing it for the last four years through high school and college and it is actually getting a little more popular now which is cool to see! This involves finding items at low prices at places like garage sales, Marshall's. Goodwill, Ross or any type of store or sale like that and then flipping them on eBay or other selling apps for a profit! The strategy is super simple actually and it will help you build skills in sales and marketing that will carry onto any other thing you do in life as no matter what field you are in you are going to have to sell and market. Just take relationships for example, you have to sell yourself and your personality to a potential partner if you want them to date you. Here is a post that breaks down the strategy for you in better detail than I can do in this already long post >> Other Side Hustles to Pick Up This SummerThere isn't just one option though if you don't like the previous one. Other than reselling here are a few more side hustles you can take on this summer in order to increase your income:
Some of these take more time than others and some of these are more hard labor orientated than others, you have to be self aware and know yourself and what will fit you the best. Time to Start Experiencing More of LifeDon't be tempted to buy more stuff with this extra income, spend it on the right experiences. Now that you have a little more knowledge it is time to use this to start that side hustle so that you can experience more of life. Whether that just be more date nights to different places you couldn't afford before or to start traveling more. The number one reason that people get stuck in ruts and end up not experiencing life is that they lack the resources (time and or money) to do so. Some of that is actually not having the money and some of that is just thinking that traveling is way more expensive than it really is. I eliminated one excuse of money for you already, even a side hustle can give you enough extra travel money! And if travel is the way you want to start experiencing more of life, here is a post on how to get cheaper flights, usually one of the most expensive parts of getting anywhere >> Thanks for stopping by! I hope you were able to grab some value from this article and if you were it would mean the world if you shared it with just a few friends! Thanks and have a great day, Taylor P.S. If you are looking to start reselling, there are a decent amount of scams that you have to watch out for that I will break down in this free guide, download that guide to spotting scams here >> Other Content You Will Enjoy
