Stuck in the same old patterns? Going the same places every day, eating at the same restaurants and going to the same job/ same school? Even going on the same vacations every year to get away from your job or school...
Well, until I started to deliberately try new things and have new experiences. They don't just happen in the "future," you have to take the action today to change you patterns, habits and ultimately your mindset in order to start experiencing more of life.
What fun is doing the same things day after day, only to look forward to retiring so you can relax? Is that all you want out of life, not enjoying the main chunk of your life so you can retire and enjoy like the last 15 years when you are old and can't do that much? Sounds boring as f*ck to me...
When you take that step to change your day to day life, even just the slightest, you start to build new skills, go new places, create new stories, build new habits that lead to more ideas and so much more. You really start to experiencing more of every aspect of life on a day to day basis, which has made me a hell of a lot happier and my goals/ vision a lot clearer!
The best part? It is super cheap, you don't have to fly half-way across the world in order to start experiencing more of life. It can be as simple as changing your habits to start experiencing a better mindset, or going to the gym and focusing on health to start experiencing a better version of you.
I want to break down some easy ways you can start experiencing more of life today, because if I just tell you to go travel and experience more of life, it will make you feel good for a few minutes but you will just go back to your old routine then.
So, let's dive in!
Change A Few Habits
One of the major things that happens when we get stuck in these never-ending patterns is we have the same habits for years at a time.
Our life is driven by patterns (habits) so if you have the same habits for years, you aren’t really experiencing anything new.
It is amazing what you can do when you just change a few of the habits you have and all the new opportunities or realizations that open up for you.
Take inventory of your current habits and see what ones could be replaced with something better.
For example, maybe your eating habits are poor and you decide to change them so you start researching the best diets, foods to eat, when to eat and craft a plan that fits your life. You all of the sudden start feeling more energized and your brain is thinking clearer and you remember more now that you are feeding your body the right foods and vitamins.
This new energy and thinking can lead to new ideas and innovations in your daily life. It is crazy how much one habit has the ability to impact your life.
Sounds kind of crazy right? But it is actually a super common practice that is being adopted by many of the top people in every industry around the world, as well as many everyday people.
Because it helps you organize your thoughts, think about why you are thinking about the way you are and reflect on the lessons you have learned in life.
Many people never do this and make the same mistakes over and over again in life. You are really holding yourself back from mental clarity, purpose and self-awareness if you are not meditating at least a few times a week.
There are free guided meditations on YouTube that are actually very good so you really have no excuses.
Drive A Different Way to/ From Work
(or school, whichever applies to you)
This is a simple one to get out of your routine, drive the long way home. Drive through the country or out of the city if you normally just drive in the city.
This will help you realize how much more there is out there than just that small routine you have been stuck in.
Constantly be changing the way you drive to or from work, it will make you more creative and give you some new energy.
Eat Somewhere New
We all have those go to restaurants for when we are in a hurry, when we have a date night and when we order food in, many people actually never change it up.
This is especially true when it comes to cooking. A lot of people end up cooking the same meals for years because that is what they are used to and know how to cook. Try cooking a new type of meal, it will not only be a new food to push your comfort zone but also a new recipe that will challenge you and your cooking skills.
Or, if you are eating out/ ordering in.... try somewhere new, start off trying some new restaurants in your area, with the food you normally eat and then expand your horizons and try some new cultures food. You never know what you like and don't like until you try it and when you try it, you can at least have a story to tell and you expanded your comfort zone a little which can translate to other areas of your life.
Do Something That Makes You Uncomfortable
Do something every day that makes you uncomfortable, for some that may be starting to workout or go to the gym, for others, it might be talking to strangers.
Expand your comfort zone because if you start doing this more and more you will gain much more confidence in life, allowing you to seek out new experiences.
Go On A Walk
Just get out in nature, start experiencing some new environments compared to the inside of your house, your car and the office or classroom.
Get outside and get some natural light and vitamin D it will do wonders for your mindset and give you some exercise on top of that!
Start Reading and/ or Listening to Podcasts
One of my favorite ways to start experiencing more of life because you get to learn from the lives of other people through their books and start realizing more about your own life.
Read about skills, principles and lessons you can apply into your own life as well as books in your niche or what you are passionate about.
This will give you a new mindset to experience more of life on a daily basis. The more you learn, the more ideas you will create.
Much like reading, listening to podcasts during your walk, in the car or at the gym will help you increase the amount of knowledge coming into your brain which in turn will help you create more ideas.
This is definitely the way to go if reading isn’t your strongest skill or you get bored easy because listening to people talk is much more entertaining.
You can’t grow when you are always doing the easy things, you grow when you struggle and then overcome that struggle.
Start seeking out things that challenge you like going to the gym or learning to play the guitar.
Even start that side hustle, project, blog, photography, etc, that you have been putting off for a later date.
