Sometimes you just need to take a step back and realize how f**king good life is, this is how to do so...

Picture
Go to class, go to work, do homework, take care of the family, make time for friends, go to the gym, the list is endless.

It seems like there are a million things to do each day and not enough time to do even half of them.

Stress creeps in and you fall victim to the subconscious patterns that your brain creates for you after so many years of living to worry about the future and constantly just trying to survive.

Next thing you know it's been ten years and you have even less time because now you are running your kids around and all you can think about is retirement because that is when "life will be enjoyable."

Truth is, life is hard as f**k but it is also amazing as f**k if you allow it to be.

Nobody "stops and smells the roses," as they say and we just constantly go through life worrying about that next thing, and then after that there its something new to worry about.

How about you carve out some time to actually enjoy life on a day to day basis? You won't be wasting time and your relationships, work and happiness will all improve significantly.

We all have time, it just comes down to what you care about more, your two hours on social media every day or your happiness?

Life Gets Busy and Stressful, Here's How This Impacts Your Mind and Happiness

In more ways than you could even imagine.
Waiting until later in life to find happiness is never the answer.

First off, why would you not want to start being happy now? Why would you make yourself wait 10, 20, 30 years in order to do so? Happiness is free and is not determined by your circumstances, so stop thinking otherwise.

Just think back to grade school, probably the least stressful and most enjoyable times of your life, even though you might not have realized it at the time.

You are probably going to look back in 5 years and think the same about the time period you are in right now, at least if you are in your 20's like me. Even though college seems stressful and you don't have time for working on yourself right now, you definitely do.

Just think about all the time you have outside of class, that you spend on social media and going to drink. Cut a lot of that out and you probably have countless hours a day to work on yourself, just hang out with friends for a few hours a day instead of all day.

Why?

Because I can assure you that if you don't think you have time now, you really won't have time in the future when you are juggling a marriage, kids, work and bills.

Then what? You never take time to find your happiness even though it is free and doesn't take much time at all each day.

This means your whole life you are going to be living in constant stress, unclear mindsets and likely not going to see any real results in your life in terms of your goals.

And this will impact everything from your work to your relationships, not just your happiness.

Why You Need to Start "Taking a Step Back"

Not nearly enough people do and it really impacts their work and lives.
"So what if I don't take time to live in the moment and enjoy the day to day, is it really that big of a deal?"

Well, kind of if you want a fulfilling life...

You could just work to pay the bills and buy stuff your whole life, never really enjoying life other than when you are buying sh*t. If you think that makes you happy, try it out and let me know how it goes. There are enough case studies out there disproving that and I'm sure even if you think you are the outlier and that "money is all I need" is your mentality, it most likely is not.

As Jim Carrey once said, "I wish everyone could get rich and famous so they could see that isn't the answer."

It is time to start investing in yourself and your happiness everyday by "taking a step back" and living a little more in the present.

Why?

First off, it will help you destress which is essential if you want to see any type of happiness in your life. Stress brings worry into your life because you are constantly worrying about how you are going to get something done, play for a bill or about how a date will go.

When you relieve that stress in your life you will start to worry less and just clear up your mind for positive thinking.

Plus, when you clear up your mind you will start to think more clearly leading to better decisions, more productive work and more opportunities coming your way.

This can translate to the relationship side of our life as well because when we are stressing less about if things will work out, or being more present and listening better, you will have stronger overall relationships and relationships are one of the key factors of happiness so I would like to say this is very important! ;)

Taking a step back allows us to live more in the present as you will worry less about the future and stop holding onto the past that you may regret.

The present is where happiness lies, let's learn to spend a little bit more time than we currently are in the present. I will put money on you seeing a difference in your mindset and mood when you do this.

How Your Life Will Look With These Easy Changes

Imagine a stronger relationship with your significant other.

Waking up everyday ready to take on the world together and focused on common goals, rather than just living to survive.

Imagine having clearer ideas and being able to articulate them at work with more confidence.

Leading to more growth opportunities in your job, which is hopefully something you love.

Or imagine being able to love where you are in life, no matter where you are or what the circumstances, stances because you know you are working towards your goals and living based around your goals.

Just being able to wake ups happy even rather than stressed right away in the morning.

It is a game changer and I know it's what you want because heck it is what we all want.

Okay, so how exactly do you do this now?!

How to Actually Start "Taking A Step Back" to Find More Happiness

I always got you guys with there actionable advice in the posts, don't you worry!
Time for the good sh*t... Here's a list of a handful of things that you can try for free to increase your happiness!
  • Take a walk, ideally in the early morning or late evening when the sun is rising or setting. I really haven't found a better time to go for a walk than this and bring along your favorite mindset podcast as well, it acts like a walking meditation!
    • For podcasts, try The MFCEO Project, The School of Greatness, The Rich Roll Podcast, On Purpose, etc.
  • Go to the gym, it will challenge you but ultimately it can be almost like a mindset sanctuary after you start getting used to going (if you don't already) it has helped me emmensly.
  • Get outside for a few hours a day, you need that UV light and I can't stress this enough, whether it is on the walk or working for a few hours or just playing a sport.
  • Drink more water, this won't help live in the moment really but it really does help brain function as your brain is made up of mostly water, have to keep it hydrated.
  • Take a cold shower, like uncomfortably cold, this gets you to think about nothing but that shower and you will be as in the moment as you can get.
  • Try the Wim Hof breathing exercises.
  • Cut out sugar, this will clear the mind and get rid of brainfog to live in the moment a little more.
  • Go out with friends and leave your phones at home.
  • Don't use your phone the first or last hour of the day.
  • Go for a drive, listen to your favorite music and just think. This forces you, or at least should, to be off your phone.

One Thing That is Holding You Back From Happiness

You might not like to hear this, but you need to hear this...
Your damn phone.

We wake up and constantly look at if anyone has texted us or what we missed on social media.

Then, right away we start comparing our lives to the lives of the people or friends we see on social media and it is just a bad way to start the day, or even go through the day.

Limit the time you are on your phone each day and you will see a dramatic increase in your happiness and mindset. You will actually be living more of your own life instead of seeing what everyone else is constantly doing.

You too could have more time and resources to do dope stuff if you didn't spend so much time looking at your phone all day and watching other people do cool stuff.

Even if it is just cutting back from 3 hours to one hour of social media or Netflix each day, that's two extra hours to live your own life and get some things done.

One Final Strategy to Put The Odds of Happiness in Your Favor

Don't skip the most important step, saved the best for last.
Definitely don't forget this...

Meditate.

This will tie all of the other strategies to living in the moment together and help you reflect on them, pull out the lessons and feelings you had and start to actually craft your mindset.

Meditation helps to solidify and process everything you experienced that day and that means if you took time for yourself and your happiness, you will start to solidify those feelings into your mind.

Over time this will totally rewire your thoughts and lead to more happiness in your subconscious mind, positive thinking will just be your go-to.

Too many people's "go-to" mindset is complaining and negative self talk, mine was no different, and that is why I worked so hard to see what worked and what didn't for happiness and mindsets.

I really encourage you guys to try these things out and let me know what you think!
