You might know Seth Godin as he was featured in our last blog post about the theory behind permission marketing and how effective it is in the real world. Now we have brought Seth Godin back and thought we could share some of our favorite marketing books written by Seth Godn in order to help us get the attention we need while running a small business. Seth Godin is one of the best modern day marketers that we have come across, right up there with Gary Vaynerchuk, and in turn he has written some of the most valuable marketing books, yet he is not as well know as some of the other marketers out there. You will definitely know his name after these books though because the marketing books as some of the best around and help us take action, not just learn what works in theory. LinchpinThe one book on here that will not be about marketing or business but rather a more important topic, self awareness and creating value in everything we do. It was too good to leave off of the list :) Linchpin is Seth Godin's guide on how to become indispensable in our career, business and all aspects of our life. This book teaches us the most important part of our success in life, the value you bring to people. This is the one thing that people care about, if you don't bring this value then nobody will care. Linchpin teaches us to offer massive value in everything we do, not just in our businesses. This is essential no matter if an entrepreneur or not because if you are working for someone, the more value you bring the more recognition you ill get and better opportunities will come your way. Permission MarketingOur most talked about book these past few weeks as we ave just finished it on the plane ride home from San Diego this past weekend! This quickly became one of our favorite books we have read this year so far due to the message that it gave to us that so many other marketing books have not before. This message was how to gain the permission of your followers, customers, etc to sell to them before even offering a sale. This book talks about bringing value first, a concept we need to all understand as it is the basis for our business because if we don't bring value we are never able to reach the customers we are looking for because they just won't care. We have to build their trust by offering value, then we can start to sell to them one we have nurtured that relationship. This is one of the most powerful ways to sell because it builds trust, and people buy from who they trust. This is just touching on a few of the concepts covered in this book, we definitely recommend that you grab yourself a copy (here) and learn even more about how to incorporate permission marketing into your own business. All Marketers Are LiarsSo many businesses fail because they forget to, or don't now how to, tell their story to their customers. Or they even tell a story that their customers don't resonate with so they don't build as strong of a relationship. All Marketers Are Liars, goes over the importance, as well as how to properly tell your story in a business so that customers can relate with it. So many people are doing it all wrong, so why not learn to tell your story correctly and stand out from the crowd? The right story helps our customers relate to our businesses more as they see a face or a higher purpose behind just the products or services we are selling. This story helps them trust the business more and guess what? Like we said earlier, people buy from who they trust! The story your business tells is more than important, it is required if we want to find any true success. So don't miss out on telling your story, start ASAP and start building that trust. Purple CowThis is the first book that we read from Seth Godin and it got us hooked on all of the books that this marketing genius wrote! Purple Cow is all about how to get more attention to your business and help your marketing STAND OUT from the crowd. With so many people trying to push and sell their products online now, it is vital that we stand out if we want to gain any traction. Purple Cow is focused on helping our marketing become "A Purple Cow" because nobody remembers a normal cow but when they see a purple cow, it gets talked about long after they see it for the first time. This is exactly the goal of our marketing, to get it to be remembered and talked about long after they see the ad. Totally the opposite of what many people are saying about buying billboards, TV ads, banner ads, etc. They just get great exposure but they are never remembered long after someone sees them... Purple Cow helps us figure out not only how to create content that stands out but also how to make people remember it. If we can't create content that stands out, then we will never be able to gain the attention we need to succeed. It i that simple guys! The DipEven though this is last on the list, don't take it as unimportant because it might but one of the most important ones to understand (content wise) in this list. This is not a marketing strategy guide like a few of the other ones, it won't help your marketing stand out but it will help you on a personal level... The Dip is all about how to bounce back after falling, and bounce back 10x harder. There is no way to avoid the pitfalls as a business owner and/or entrepreneur becasue it is just part of the game. The important part is how we react to those setbacks, the average people will most likely quit... will you be the one to stand out and rise back up stronger than ever? Everyday countless entrepreneurs are quitting after a setback because they didn't know how to bounce back correctly or effectively, yet that is exactly what The Dip teaches us. It also shows us the importance of the comeback because no matter how far you have gone or how many times you have fallen, when you get back up 10x more effective than before, we are able to open up more opportunities than ever before. You never know how close you are to your breakthrough.. never quit and learn to bounce back effectively so you can stay on the journey long enough to see the breakthrough and then thrive! Hope you all enjoyed this, stay tuned for more and let us know what you think of each of these great books from Seth Godin!
