Social media, it definitely has a love/ hate relationship in almost everyone's everyday life. You love it because you can keep up with what all of your friends are doing and share some awesome things you are doing or share all the awesome people you are hanging out with. But, on the flip side of that is jealousy and comparison, when you start comparing your life to what everyone else is posting on social media.
You start seeing all these cool things they are doing, or places they are going or events they are going to, which seems like every week, and you start wondering why your life doesn't look like that.
In reality, these people really aren't doing these things everyday like many portray, but either way, how about I show you how you an start doing more of these things that you see other people doing? Or even cooler things?
Racing your dream car on a track in Vegas, backpacking Europe and laying on a beach in Greece, just to name a few things, may seem out of reach right away, but when you break it down it is actually very achievable.
While $100 a week might not sound like a lot, it can actually lead to you starting to experience more of life, whatever that may be to you. Maybe it is bringing your significant other out to fancy dinner a few times a month, or even just taking a weekend trip or vacation every few months.
And more importantly, learning to make $100 a week can help you build skills to make $200 a week and then $300 extra a week, and so on... allowing you to have better and better experiences and giving you something other than just the weekend to look forward to!
Let me give you a quick example, say you want to race a Lamborghini on your Vegas trip in a few months, and when I went it was $45-80 a lap depending on which model you chose, now think about if you were able to make an extra $100 a month and put this into a new bank account called your "experience fund." At the end of two months you would have an extra $800 and this would translate into 10 laps, which is more than plenty, racing 200mph in your favorite supercar!
Maybe racing cars isn't your thing, just relate it to any area of your life such as an extra $400 for dates every month... imagine how much fun that could be!
Now imagine you can travel more each year with this extra money, even one or two extra trips can make for an amazing year! Let me break traveling, with your "experience fund money," down for you now
How to Use That Money to Travel More
Now, let's say you take that "experience fund" money from throughout the year, if you want to add one trip a year, and that is $5200 (minus a little for taxes) extra that you have. Plenty for a solid extra trip that you really didn't think you would take this year.
Considering you can get a plane ticket to South Africa from NYC for about $1,500 or even to Australia for around $1800, that still leaves you more than plenty for a week of laying on the beach or going on adventures.
You can find an Air Bnb for $50-300 a day, depending on how nice of a place you want, and then that still leaves you with a couple of THOUSAND dollars for food and adventures (like shark cage diving for $120 just outside of Cape Town, South Africa).
Or, imagine you want to take a few extra weekend trips throughout the year to reduce stress a little.
Just take that money from above and translate it to a bunch of smaller trips such as a weekend in California or exploring New York!
Who knew that you would have the potential to take such amazing trips, or be laying on a beach in Australia this year, just from the money in your "experience fund."
Now to the Good Stuff...
How to Increase Your Income $100 a Week
So now that you know about this so called "experience fund," how the hell do you get this extra hundred dollars a week to start building the fund?
That's exactly what I have been working on throughout my high school and college years, always having a side hustle and one of my favorite and most consistent, is reselling online or locally. This is also the easiest thing to get started for those of you who really aren't trying to start building a business right now because your job or college classes are taking up a ton of your time.
With reselling, essentially you find items where there is a price discrepancy on what you are able to buy it for and what you can sell it for.
With just a few hours a week, you can find items that you can get at a lower price and then resell them for a profit. How the heck do you find these items though?
Some of my favorite places are retail stores such as Goodwill, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Ross. These are all places that sell name brand goods heavily discounted and when you go to places like Marshalls and TJ Maxx, these items are usually brand new with their tags, making their resale value higher!
If you don't have the time to go to all those stores around you, then just sit on your couch and find the items on apps like Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. These are just local people trying to get rid of their old stuff, usually at a good price, and you can buy and then flip them on eBay or even just relisting them on Facebook Marketplace!
Even just a few items at a $20-30 profit, will get you that initial $100 a week goal! Then, you can start building from there.
This isn't the only way to do this, there are many other side hustles I can talk about as well this is just the first one I have decided to focus on as I have been doing it for the last four years!
How I Have Increased My Income As A College Student
As I talked about above, I have been reselling for the past four years, and working on other side hustles as well. This one has hands down been one of my favorites though, in order to increase my income on a busy college schedule. The, this on top of my job income has allowed for some amazing trips with friends, we are planning one to Iceland, Norway and Sweden this summer!
I have really found my niche and some of the top selling things for me online, to be accessories (like shoes and watches) and electronics, and have saved a ton of time just looking for these things. I highly recommend you try a few niches and see what ends up selling the best for you as on a busy schedule you don't have even close to enough time to look for items everyday in every niche. Instead, just spend an hour, or even a half an hour and some time online, finding those perfect items for you to sell each week.
That is going to be a major focus on this blog as I want more than anything for you guys to start experiencing more of the amazing lives we have. So, stay tuned for some more tips, stories and strategies to build this momentum in your like using reselling and other side hustles.
Back to reselling for a second though.
The Potential for Way More Than $100 a Week
Now that you understand the basics of flipping or reselling, is it possible to leverage this strategy?
Once you start to realize what sells best for you and where, you can have more of a focus and start finding better and better items. We just have to realize, just like most things in life, that we are not going to be amazing right away, it is rather going to take time to start getting the momentum and this will lead to more momentum in your life to start experiencing everything possible.
I have even had $400 weeks with very minimal work, allowing me more time to focus on the other things in life such as school!
It has not always been consistent though, luckily I was the one who has figured out all of the scams and lost money in order for you guys to learn the lessons without losing a heck of a lot of money (for a college student).
I can't wait to share those stories on the blog with you!
